This is our most popular course and is the course you will need if your aim is to start your own grooming business. You will have 'hands- on' training from day 2 of the course.
This course starts with the basic preparation skills as described on the Assistant Groomers Course and continues through all the aspects of grooming which you will need to style a variety of the popular breeds which regularly visit a grooming salon.
We will teach you how to use clippers to style a dog and set pattern lines. You will learn that, by choosing the right blade, you can do far more with clippers than just removing the coat. You will also learn how to handle scissors correctly and how to use scissors and thinning shears to create a style appropriate to the breed.
Included in this course is tuition in HAND-STRIPPING. This is a specialised skill which, unfortunately, is also becoming a rarity in many grooming salons. You will gain experience in how to identify the breed and coat type which will benefit from being hand-stripped rather than clipped, and you will have the opportunity to learn and perfect this simple technique.
Beyond the skills of grooming you will gain experience in client relations and will receive a detailed information booklet which will assist you to get your business up and running. Dog grooming is a specialised industry which has different needs when considering such things as insurance, advertising, location, equipment etc. Your booklet will help you to make decisions and to save money in start-up costs.
This is a 20 day /140 hours full time course, from 9.00am to 4.00pm, (Monday -Friday for 4 weeks). A record of skills and competancies is recorded throughout the course for the student to keep as evidence of training and skills acquired.
COST - £1750
All major debit or credit cards accepted-(card service charge applies for credit cards).
N.B. Specialised scissoring of the Poodle and Bichon Frise can not be covered in this course. To gain these skills takes time and practise and requires one to one tuition, i.e. our Improver Course. You will get the opportunity to observe both the Poodle and Bichon Frise being scissored, and will probably get the chance to learn the basic Poodle pet cut.
To gain the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma the student can elect to apply to take the examinations which consist of :-
A short answer written paper
A practical test of your skills on dogs from selected categories
These exams are entirely optional and must be taken at a City & Guilds examination centre. It is advised that the student should have a minimum of 18 months grooming experience after training before applying to take the examinations. This is to allow time to build up speed for the practical exams, which are taken within strict time constraints.
